The Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival 2025 and Malika Music Festival 2025

The Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival 2025 and its component event, the Malika Music Festival 2025 were officially announced at a press conference held at the classy Grotto Hall @ Confetti KL in Mines 2. 


The two-day Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival which takes place at The Landing @ KL Base in Sungai Besi on 12th & 13th April 2025 seamlessly integrates a movie launch & trailer premiere, a 3km celebrity fun run, a vibrant cultural festival and the Malika Music Festival (which will be held on 12th April 2025), as part of a unique promotional campaign for the upcoming scream flick “Kulit Wayang”. 


As co-producers of "Kulit Wayang and organisers of the festivals, EMT Ventures Sdn Bhd understands that the film's potential to resonate deeply with Malaysian audiences.


“We know that a movie launch shouldn't just be for the press and have transformed the event into a large-scale public celebration. This two-day event gives us a unique opportunity for brand synergy and cultural engagement,” expressed Penny Chan, EMT Ventures Director in her welcome address. “Our extensive experience in large-scale event management and proven track record of successful campaigns allows us to deliver a high impact and memorable event. We've partnered with leading event professionals to ensure flawless execution. ‘Kulit Wayang’ is also supported by FINAS and MOTAC, " she added. 

“Promoting "Kulit Wayang " as a public launch instead of a private press event, gets the movie seen by many more people, creating more excitement and buzz," Chan concluded. “Wayang Kulit Cutural Festival” will celebrate Malaysian culture through community engagement and will showcase Malaysian heritage through traditional performances, cultural displays, and local food, bringing people together for a fun and shared experience at the event. 


The festival will also incorporates the Malika Music Festival 2025 which will feature a host of popular local and Indonesia artistes notably renowned actor and singer Fattah Amin, Indonesian pop icons Nidji, pop punk favourites Bunkface, indie pioneers OAG, and rock bands Krusty, Steeltoe Solutions & Conflict Crisis. The festival also intends to create a healthy and unique fun run experience “ Run with the Artists!”.

This is a first-ever fun run with the stars of "Kulit Wayang ". People can choose a 3km fun run or a longer race. It’s a chance to have fun, get fit, and meet the artists. This unique event combines fitness, entertainment, and community engagement. 

“Kulit Wayang " is a Malaysian horror mystery (rated PG13) about Wayang Kulit, the Kelantan tradition that was banned for 28 years. It will be officially launched in 50+ over cinemas in Malaysia on 1st May 2025, as well as in Singapore and Brunei. 

The film is supported by FINAS (Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia) and MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture). It is directed by Dain Said, well-known director of Dukun, Bunohan, Harum Malam, Interchange. 


The main cast of the movie will include Fattah Amin and Pekin Ibrahim, and Indonesian actresses Reynavenzka Retno Ayu and Jennaira Kamaratih Jiwa. 

Fattah Amin is a top A-line actor in Malaysia with a Facebook following of 80,000, 3.7 million on Instagram and 906,000 on TikTok. He has won numerous awards, including Pelakon TV Lelaki Popular" at the 31st ABPBH (Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian), and "Pelakon Baharu Paling Popular (Lelaki)" award in 2016. 


Pekin Ibrahim has 229,000 followers on Facebook, 454,000 on Instagram and 295,000 subscribers on YouTube.  He is known for his roles in critically acclaimed films like Bunohan (2012) Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah (2010) Mat Moto: Kami Mat Moto Bukan Mat Rempit (2016), for which he won Best Actor at the Malaysia Film Festival. He has also received numerous award nominations, including Best Actor at the 24th FFM (2012) and the 28th FFM (2016) in various categories. 

Indonesian actress Reynavenzka Retno Ayu Deyandra Wayang started acting from 2010. her career highlights includes films such as Taring, Bahwa Cinta Itu Ada,Toilet 105, Misteri Hantu Selular, Brokenhearts, Pulau Hantu, Panda and web series that include Kalis as well the sinetron Firasat. 

Junior Indonesian actress Jennaira Kamaratih Jiwa has starred in Junior Theater Festival Jakarta, Open Bo Lagi 2 webseries. 

Sypnosis of Kulit Wayang :-

During 1980s, in a Malaysian seaside village, a heartbroken puppet master searches for answers after his daughter's death. A visiting mother and daughter from Indonesia uncover the village's hidden secrets when a special puppet comes to life. This leads to a thrilling adventure filled with mystery and cultural traditions. 


The Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival and Malika Music Festival will be happening inside The Hangar Stage, that will feature a stage with a 40ft LED screen. Activities throughout the 2 days will include traditional music performances such as Gamelan and Dikir Barat, and traditional dance performances such as Inang and Zapin. 

There will also be family friendly interactive workshops including batik painting or wau making, allowing attendees to participate in traditional crafts while learning about their cultural significance. 

Families can also enjoy traditional games such as Congkak, Batu Seremban and Gasing. There will also be Wayang Kulit performance (Shadow Play) featuring our movie actors Fattah Amin & Pekin Ibrahim. 

More than 100 vendors are expected to showcase their wares during the festival. There will also be food stalls featuring popular Malay dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Satay, Rendang and more. 

The festival will also include drawing and art contests - open category for primary and secondary school students with the help of teachers from Malaysia Education Department (Jabatan Pendidikan Malaysia). 

The fun run expects a crowd of up to 13,000 runners, including up to 5,000 fun runners from from all age groups from KL & Selangor. 

Kulit Wayang Cultural Run and Festival is more than just an event; it’s a unique blend of cultural celebration, physical activity, and film promotion. It’s a chance to embrace a vibrant community spirit, celebrate Malaysian heritage, while awaiting the the release of "Kulit Wayang" , a movie that promises to captivate audiences.
