Food review 2020- Tendon Kohaku, J's Gate Dining, Lot 10 Bukit Bintang

When someone suggested to me to try some tendon, I was pretty confused... Now why would anyone want to eat tendons or sinew? It is what that connects our muscle to bone and I did not think it could be eaten..

And what tendons are we eating? Beef tendons? Ermm... It did not sound too appetizing...

That was before I know that Tendon is actually a Japanese traditional donburi dish which consists a bowl of rice topped with tempura... Tempura is a dish of deep fried shrimp, fish and vegetables.

Tendon's "ten" means tempura, "don" means donburi which is rice bowl.

So anyway I went for my first tendon specialty restaurant in Kuala Lumpur at J's Gate Dining, Lot 10....

J’s Gate Dining is a Japanese foodcourt with about 18 outlets offering a myriad of Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices.. so depending what you want to indulge in, there is something for everyone here.. And that includes Tendon Kohaku...

Tendon Kohaku is actually already very popular in Singapore and also the Philippines drawing crowds to their restaurants...

Kohaku specialises in a very comforting well-curated bowl of tendon...

The Donburi is made with Nanatsuboshi rice imported from Hokkaido

The menu options are straight forward ans simple – the signature Kohaku Tendon (at just RM26!!) , as well as Mini Tendon (RM18) , Kakiage Tendon (RM23) , Chicken Tendon (RM23) and Prawn Tendon (RM33) .

Each tempura is freshly prepared and crispy... It is fried in a blend of high-grade sesame oil and cooking oil.. The Japanese people utilizes a special cooking technology that ensures the oil is kept clean and fresh even after repeated frying....

Then the tempura is drenched with either one of Kohaku’s two secret homemade sauce.... Original sauce and Spicy sauce, these velvety sauces piquant and sweet... I had the Spicy sauce and it came with a fiery kick, not too spicy (but I can eat pretty spicy)

Hungry? Do not fret... Each Tendon Kohaku portion is generous, especially the Signature Tendon...

My bowl was topped with pumpkin, long beans, mushroom, chicken breast, crab stick, baby corn, and shrimp....

You can will likely bite into more unique pieces such as fried chicken tempura and baby corn tempura which makes this dish somewhat unique compared to the typical tempura dishes you find in other restaurants....

To eat, it is recommended that you remove the lid off the bowl, then move the tempura to the lid to expose and properly eat your Donburi rice.

This is for once that I liked almost every piece in the bowl, from the sweet soft pumpkin, crunchy long beans to fresh-tasting prawn.

Yes, it is delicious and I would so definitely be revisiting and having more tendons for
 lunch or dinner...
