Living in Singapore can be a boon for you
just because its location allows you to visit several places of interest in
this region like Taiwan, Hanoi and Seoul. Having a day off can create the right
opportunity to visit the famous tourist destination- Johor- as you can reach
this place by simply crossing the Causeway.
Getting
to Johor
There are two easy ways to reach Johor and
enjoy a one day trip here. These include:
Taking a bus from
Singapore to Johor- It is very common to travel from Singapore to Johor by
getting on a bus at Woodlands Regional Interchange destined for Kotaraya II
Terminal. As you reach this terminal you will right at the Johor Bahru Customs
that will link you to Johor’s City Square Mall. It is the most convenient means
of transport to reach Johor from Singapore.
Opting for the Train- The train will carry
you from the Train Checkpoint at Woodlands to the JB Sentral within 5 minutes
via shuttle. Train shuttles from Singapore to Johor make up to seven to and fro
trips every day.
When
you Reach Johor
Johor is one of the most sought after
tourist destinations for any Singaporean being at such close proximity from
Singapore. If you don’t want to spend your entire day trip at the JBCC Mall or
the City Square Mall, you can opt for visiting one or more of the following
popular tourist spots in Johor:
The
Istana Besar- If you are interested in architecture
or visiting historical sites, the Istana Besar is the ideal place to visit. It
was constructed under the watchful eyes of the late Sultan Abu Bakar in 1866 as
part of the Johor Sultanate Grand Palace. The most exclusive feature of the
Istana Besar is that it is based on the Anglo-Malay architecture which is
portrayed on the dome with Malay design in contrast with Anglo-influenced blue
roof. Although, this historical monument is still standing strong, yet it is
used specifically for only state functions. However, you can add a few photos
of the Besar to fill up your vacation album.

Johor Zoo- It is always good to expose your children
to the wild, even if it be through safe quarters. The Johor Zoo is counted
among the first zoos to be established in Asia. It has been up and running
since 1928. Although, you may be disappointed in the maintenance, yet you will
get to see many interesting animals in this zoo such as the Sun Bears, the
Sumatran Tigers, hippos, snakes and crocodiles. One of the main attraction
points of visiting this zoo is the entrance fee which is nominal. If you get
bored soon, you can also consider visiting the Royal Museum, the Endau Rompin
National Park and the Johor International Convention, which will be both fun
and educational for your kids.
