I was over at the Sunway Putra Mall and it was delightful to
see the Main Atrium buzzing with excitement and chatter of the kids from The
Salvation Army who were there for the book presentation of Sunway Putra Mall’s
Give the Gift of Reading campaign.
Of course, the buzz of excitement was not merely from the
kids but also from the gathering crowd because of the presence of 60 gorgeous
Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International beauty queens…
Sunway Putra Mall had initiated this year end CSR campaign to
work together with the public to give back to the community. The campaign
targets to cultivate the love of reading among the younger generation in
collaboration with The Salvation Army, a Non-Profit Organisation that helps the
under privileged communities by providing a wide range of community services
that include residential homes for children and the elderly, a centre for
special needs children, family support services, day cares, tuition centres and
emergency relief services amongst others…..
So there were 30 underprivileged kids who were present at
the event, ranging from 4 to 19 years old, carefully selected from charity
homes supported by The Salvation Army.
The funds collection spanned over one month with
contributions from the public and also book sales and the final tally…..
Sunway
Putra Mall successfully collected 1300 books and also funds up to RM8000
through The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign, in which Mr HC Chan announced
Sunway Putra Mall will round up to RM10,000…
This funds will then be used to support The Salvation Army’s
centres and their work with the underprivileged communities across Malaysia
The 60 lovely Miss Tourism International presented the books
together with goodie bags to the 30 children. Sunway Putra Mall was honoured to
have the beauty queens who were also there as part of their outreach program to
spend time with the underprivileged community…
