Yours truly was over at the Avenue K recently to support the
#AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Cancer Benefit Event and Concert. It was a whole day event that
offered free breast examination and consultations, health talks, cancer
information display,
healthy food demo and sampling, and discounts by event
partners and AirAsia affiliates, as well as live performances by some famous
local celebrities, Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza, SonaOne and Joe Flizzow, with Kaka
Azraff doing the opening performance…
The #AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Cancer Benefit Event and Concert is
the culmination of this year's #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign, following a successful
month-long, fund-raising effort where AirAsia had pledged a contribution of 10
sen from every flight booking made on www.airasia.com from Aug 15 to Sept 16 as
donation to Makna.
Last year's #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign raised close to RM200,000
in donation for Makna, and this year's donation amount surpassed last year’s
donation with a whooping RM350,000!!! How amazing was that…
The cheque was then presented by Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia
Berhad to Professor Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, MAKNA Board of Trustee
at the event.
This campaign was to help cancer patients in Malaysia as
well as to educate the general public on the risk of cancer… After all, building
cancer awareness is a long-term commitment, and we all should do our part in it...
“AirAsia thanks everyone who has supported the campaign, in
the hope of creating more cancer-free tomorrows. We are motivated by the fact
that our efforts and donations will be directed to providing curative,
preventive, research and support services to cancer patients and their families
in Malaysia”, Aireen Omar said…
Farahida Mohd Farid, the General Manager of MAKNA said,”The physical,
emotional and financial toll cancer inflict on patients and their families can
be devastating. Every year countless people lose their fight against cancer not
because of the lack of cancer treatment options, but owing to the lack of
financial means to fund the treatment and the lack of awareness in taking
better care of their health.”
The funds will be used by MAKNA to also build some halfway
houses for family members of cancer patients from outstation in cancer
hospitals near Penang, Kuantan and JB (these halfway houses are about just 1 km
away from the chosen cancer hospitals)
And MAKNA is also appealing that the GST should not be
imposed on MAKNA as it is unfair to them since they are the ones
helping all those in need, and at least 88 hospitals around the country refer
cancer patients to MAKNA for financial assistance and help….
MAKNA is the National Cancer Council or Majlis Kanser
Nasional, a non profit social enterprise that plays an important part in
helping cancer patients, regardless of background, race, creed, colour and
station…

I think this such a great endeavor. I remember the sister of my friend who died of breast cancer. We visited her then to the hospital, and she only had one advice to us: do not ignore the signs. If you feel like something seems to be wrong with your breast, just consult the doctor right away. I will never forget that advice.
ReplyDeleteOne of the pressing issues that women should be aware of is breast cancer and it's nice that Air Asia collaborated with MAKNA to launch this event. It is also good that they raise funds to help the cancer victims and their families.
Good job, AirAsia. Cancer is one of the top killers and this disease has claimed millions of lives and left families devastated. Corporate world could certainly help and the way AirAsia is doing it is one way. Trivia, death from cancer especially women will increase by 60% in the next decade to two.
ReplyDeleteSuper to hear that Air Asia is supporting such a worthwhile cause. Funding health education, research and treatment is always money well spent, isn't it? You mentioned healthy food demonstrations. Did you learn anything about diet related to breast cancer in particular?
ReplyDeleteSuch a great event for a meaningful cause, so sad I can't make it >.<
ReplyDeleteThis is a meaningful event to create awareness to public.
ReplyDeleteCancer is becoming one of the most popular illness in the world and public awareness is must. Kudos to AirAsia for initiating this campaign. And, a huge shoutout to those who came and supported the event.
ReplyDeleteAirAsia showcased how corporate citizenship can be value adding to an advocacy, the community and even to the employer brand.
ReplyDelete#AirAsiaMAKNA Cancer Benefit Event & Concert 2016 is a meaningful event! Shall join it when free to support Breast Cancer!
ReplyDeleteOh I meant to support Breast Cancer Awareness activities
ReplyDeleteAn event where women can go, have some fun and also get a breast exam? What a great idea. I would go to something like this. I also should go make some donations....and get a mammogram.
ReplyDeleteReading a blog post like this is truly inspiring and motivating. Making me believe that our world is still beautiful because of the people who has a big and kind heart. I salute Air Asia and the people behind this fundraising campaign to aid our friends who has cancer. Thank you for letting us know about this one.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great endeavor by Air Asia to have an event for the benefit of cancer patients. Best of all, it's a great event to create awareness aside from offering free breast exams. I hope we have that too in our country. It also is informative for me that Tony Fernandes is no longer the CEO for Air Asia Malaysia.

Kudos to Airasia for such a meaningful event. Cancer patients are one of those people who needs help. And i appreciate that a lot of companies are reaching out to these institutions. It seemed like a very fun and entertaining event too!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great cause to support! Cancer awareness should be spread out as it can hit you without knowing it. It's great step for Air Asia. I didn't know that this airline company also takes time to help the needy and with good cause too. I hope more people can contribute to Air asia's cancer awareness next year!
ReplyDeleteI truly hate cancer and especially breast cancer. It's such a horrible illness. I think it's so good that all women came together and had this awareness event. It's so important that people contribute. I love that you wrote an article about it to share it with the world!
ReplyDeleteOutdoor activities are good for kids indeed.
