Do you know that cherries are actually powerful little nuggets of nutrition packed
with antioxidants and vitamins and great for growing kids to snack on. Cherries have been hailed as the rising superstar of fruits, and have a wide
range of functional properties, vitamins and minerals.
They are full of
antioxidants and potassium, which aids inflammatory diseases such as gout and arthritis,
prevents cancer and aids heart health. Its low calorie and low glycemic index attributes
make them an ideal fruit for people who are suffering from diabetes and for weight watchers.
Cherries are also unique because in Mother Nature they are the only source of melatonin
which is a hormone produced in our pineal gland that regulates our sleep.
There’s increasing research that shows the superfood qualities that cherries have, right up
there with goji berries and Acai berries. It
boasts antioxidant protection, as well as cancer prevention compounds
The Northwest states of the United States of America is ideal for growing cherries. These
states are situated between the Rocky Mountain and the Cascades, with nutrient rich,
volcano soil and are watered by clean melted mountain snow with warm, sun-drenched days
and cool, crisp nights. Cherries require between 1000 to 1500 hours of cold winter days
between 0 degrees to 2 degrees to produce good yield while in spring the bees which
pollinate cherry blossoms cannot have wind stronger than 14/mph.
In summer, when it rains,
helicopters are chartered to fly just above the cherry trees which produce a drying effect.
Cherries are carefully handpicked in the early hours of summer to avoid the field heat.
Mother Nature also throws challenges at cherry growers in the form of pests and diseases,
all of which the growers manage year on year with careful research and application. The
region’s growing conditions coupled with growers who over the decades have mastered the
science and art of growing cherries, are the reason why the Northwest region is able to
combine farming sophistication to produce the best cherries for cherry lovers around the
world.
Northwest Cherries is the best selling cherries in
Malaysia, making up 75% of cherry sales since most people know that they produce bigger, sweeter and juicier cherries than their counterparts.
Every Northwest Cherry is hand-picked and each
cherry is treated as gently as possible and are packed in the state-of-the-art packing
facilities that help deliver farm fresh cherries to consumers, rendering them worthy of the title
‘the Diamond of Fruit’.
Northwest Cherries can be enjoyed easily on its own, pitted in salads, on oatmeal, or stirred
into yogurts and ice cream. Add them for depth to savory dishes or simply rinse, pack and
freeze them whole for use in smoothies, sauces, and frozen desserts when cherries are out
of season. I personally love my cherries just like that or with my yogurts.. how about you...
For some healthy options, you can even dehydrate the cherries and add them to trail
mixes or granola. Better yet, simply serve the convenient and nutritional powerhouses in a
bowl for sharing.
The sweet, plump and nutrient rich Northwest Cherries is available in all leading
supermarkets, with special promotions at retail partner, AEON.
