Seafood feast at Nong and Jimmy's

If you are looking for delicious Thai style seafood, look no further, there is a great place in the heart of Ampang, in Taman Cahaya... It is not a fancy restaurant, rather a road side shack kind of restaurant but the food served there is another thing.....

Jimmy is the owner and his wife Nong is naturally from Thailand.. it is said this restaurant started off serving authentic Thai food, but has since localized a little....

There is a car park at the restaurant, but it is just a small one... so if you are lucky, you get a space...

The restaurant is with an open air concept... with just fans blowing the heat away but if you choose to sit near the grill, I am sure it can be pretty warm... Seating is also very simply, with just plastic chairs and tables....

The You Tiao being made...

Mini You Tiao pieces (about the size of your finger) is freshly made and is served with homemade pandan kaya. They are quite, simply said....divine, and once you start, it is hard hard to stop... but do not go overboard at there is a plethora of other delicious meals for you to try....

You can watch the seafood being BBQed... right in front of your eyes....

Prices here at Nong and Jimmy's are in the medium range as you can see from the menu /price list above - not that cheap, but still reasonably affordable...

Nong and Jimmy's signature dishes would include the Grilled Crabs, Mini You Tiao with Pandan Kaya, BBQ Stingray Fish, Chilli Clams, Thai Style Steamed Fish, Yellow Curry Squid and the Petai Belacan....

Tom Yum Soup RM15 (small)/ RM30 (big)

The Tom Yum Soup is lovely with the authentic Thai way, with generous helpings of squid, prawns and mushrooms.... It was definitely flavorful and highly recommended...

You might like to try the BBQ squid or the Stingray.. be sure to eat them with the sauces served at your table for the best "oomph" impact.....

I seriously cannot decide which of these fishes are my favorite as both of them were just as good. I normally do not like fried fish too much but this fried fish here was just right.. without being overly fried, crispy yet moist meat..... and well... steamed fish has always been my favorite , so I can be a little bias here... but seriously, I like both....

Black Pepper Crabs RM70/ per KG

Grilled Crabs RM70/per KG

Again there is no winner between these two... I love the black pepper taste of the Black Pepper Crabs but I also enjoyed the succulent and lightly flavored Grilled Crabs...but hey, just the look of it is enough to get your mouth watering.... huhuhu

Mini You Tiao with Pandan Kaya (price not available)

The Mini You Tiao you really shouldn't miss and also shouldn't gorge on... LOL

Prawn Cakes RM15 (small) / RM30 (big)

I absolutely love the Prawn Cakes... I cannot get enough of this!!! They are just crispy, and with real prawns inside you can taste... absolutely one of my most favorite!!!

Butter Prawns RM44 per kati/500grams

For prawn fans, you should order this... I absolutely love the crunchy butter egg mixture that comes with the prawns.....

Hudson Chan here is the person in charged for the Nong and Jimmy restaurant.. and he came by to greet us as well as tell us more about the food and restaurant....

The restaurant ambience is nothing to really shout about, but the food definitely deserves two thumbs up!!! And so there you have it, if you are in search for a nice seafood place in town or Ampang area, this is the place you have to go to!!
