Yours truly was at the lovely Zende Restaurant at the Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, which is situated just right next to the PWTC for the launch of the Penang Food Promotion.
The ambience there at the restaurant is lovely, contemporary and modern with comfortable seats and bright orange napkins that stands out....
Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur has been promoting local cuisines to their guests from all over the country and has worked with various states such as Sarawak, Johor, Terengganu and Melaka during the past to promote their special assorted and different cuisines to patrons of the hotel.
So from the 18th May 2015 up until the 29th May 2015, Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur will be showcasing Penang's offering at its Zende Restaurant. This is supported by the Ministry of Tourism & Culture as well as Tourism Malaysia Pulau Pinang, Jabatan Kesenian & Kebudayaan Negara Pulau Pinang, Perbadanan Kraftangan Malaysia Pulau Pinang and the Penang Chef Association.
So up until the 29th May 2015, patrons of the hotel can tantalize their tastebuds with a wide array of authentic dishes from the Pearl of the Orient
This 10-day culinary journey was launched by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah , Deputy Secretary General, Ministry of Tourism & Culture Malaysia.
Also gracing the event were Mr Jonathan Freddy P Bagang- Director of Ministry of Tourism & Culture Malaysia Pulau Pinang, En Harun Pilus - Director of Tourism Malaysia Pulau Pinang, En Mohamad Halim Merican - GM of the Hotel, En Zakariya Musa - Director of Sales and Marketing and Head of various departments....
Then, Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah was invited to start a food tour before the buffet was then officially open to everyone to indulge themselves in....
Guest, media, bloggers including yours truly were treated to some very colourful
traditional dances that mesmerized us.....
Penang cuisine may range from street food to fine dining, but the myriad of flavours offered are very unique to the island state. That is just exactly why Penang is reputed to be the "food paradise" in the region.
To ensure the authencity of this promotion, the Penang Chefs Association of Malaysia has appointed two chefs from Penang to assist in the food preparations. They are Chef Johari Ishak and Chef Mohamad Radhi Rosli who will be working closely with the kitchen team from the hotel to focus on serving authentic Penang favourites to all guests.....
Amongst item on the buffet line-up that guests can expect are favourites such as Telur Ikan Goreng, Bergedil Daging, Ubi Pak Sudi, Kambing Kashmir, Ketam Masak Jintan, Sambal Udang Berseri, Mamak Sotong Berendam Masak Cili Pedas, Kari Kepala Ikan Merah with Bendi, Sotong Kangkong, Ekor Lembu Masak Merah, Ikan Pari Asam Pedas, Kofta Kambing, Penang Curry Mee, Ayam Masak Kapitan, Kambing Massala Parsi, Hokkien Prawn Mee, Mee Rebus Mamak, Pasembur Pulau Pinang and many more....
Here are some of my favourite dishes from my home state... yes, I am a Penangite.... the one on top is called Char Koay Kak or Fried Radish Cake. I like it... it is quite tasty though I did find the 'rice cake' slightly hard....
Then these are the Fried Prawns and Crab which is so crunchy , lip smackingly yummy and
fragrant.....
The above is a very well known dish, Char Koay Teow which almost everyone in Malaysia have tasted at one point or another.....and it is also another of my favourites.... This was very nicely done, not too dry, with the right flavours... simply delicious... I almost wanted to return for a second helping..... This is made to order and not in the buffet line....
Then there is the Pasembur, also known as Rojak Mamak to the people in KL....it comes with a sweet sauce...
Above are my choice of three favourite nyonya kueh... Pulut Tai Tai is the blue one with Kaya or egg jam on it, Kueh Bingka is the yellow one and Kueh Lapis is the pink and white one.... I missed out on another which was served but finished by the time I got to the dessert table... the Kueh Talam... a green and white kueh...these are all pretty yummy!!!!
And.... my selection for western desserts.... strawberry jelly, creme brulee and cream puff ......absolutely divine....... but you have to forgive me, I love my sweets....having a sweet tooth!!!
