The gorgeous Casa del Rio pays tribute to the Portuguese heritage of Melaka as well as the unique Melaka Sultanate. It skillfully blends historical surroundings and echoes of the past, with modern 21st century guests' needs.

relaxing at the library |
My Casa del Rio experience started with a refreshing lime ginger sorbet upon check-in, and a nice cold towel to freshen up from the humidity of our Malaysian weather in the library. We could also make our own tea or coffee there.

Tea anyone? |

Shortly upon signing in and getting our keys, we were led to our rooms.
The beautiful rooms were decorated in Mediterranean style with a touch of Peranakan flair.
|
the central Lago and the view.... |
Our deluxe room had a split level floor space of 50 sq meters. It is made up of a dressing room, a large four point bathroom, bedroom and private balcony over looking either the central Lago. But you can see the river and also the Melaka straits on the horizon.
|
the dressing room |
The dressing room off the entrance hall offers generous hanging space, a double luggage rack and six drawers. Soft white toweling robes and slippers are placed here for a transition to the luxury of your room. There is direct access to the bathrooms from the dressing area.
The marble bathrooms have separate shower and a big tub which my daughter absolutely enjoyed. From the tub one can have the option of keeping the bathroom shutters closed for privacy or open to enjoy views over the bedroom, TV and through the balcony doors beyond.
The timber floored bedrooms are furnished with very comfy bed, a flat screen television, CD, DVD and radio tuner, a lovely writing desk with international plug points and LAN cable for free internet access. You will be given your free WIFI password and username as well for the duration of your stay.
Among the amenities given is a 555 notebook which brings back lots of memories. Before Excel spreadsheets came into existence, these notebooks were olden days account books in which merchants record their transactions for the day. As for budding entrepreneurs, such books are the bane of their existence as the moneylenders will come hounding while waving it for them to pay off their debts. For the layman who wants to make a quick buck, the notebook becomes a punter's manual with all the supposed lucky numbers one can think of.
The side board is equipped with a mini fridge which we will stock to your order can be used to refrigerate your own items.
The balcony is furnished with a chair, continental height table and small sofa/divan and the added luxury of a ceiling fan to circulate the air.
Other room facilities that you might expect include variable temperature control, security electronic security key entry, IDD telephones, In Room Electronic Safe, Hair Dryer, Iron and Ironing board, full length mirrors.
I was just relaxing and surfing the internet, something my dear hubby was complaining when the doorbell rang, and a staff member came and deliver this to us...

onde -onde treat |
It was a little bowl of Nyonya onde- onde or buah melaka. Onde-onde are green coloured balls made with a combination of glutinous rice flour and tapioca flour. Coated with either fresh grated coconut , they were like little sweet bombs that burst in your mouth. It was one of my favorite Nyonya kuih, so I was delighted to have some.

my view |
The hotel offers a complex of pools including children's area, a 20 meter infinity lap pool and a very laid-back sunset pool adjacent to the pool bar.

Breakfast was complimentary at the River Grill and impressive. They had a menu for an ala carte selection and also buffet. You were welcomed to select something off the menu and enjoy the buffet spread as well.

this was a surprise. We parked our car in the parking lot in the basement and were pleasantly surprised to have our car window screen all cleaned with a little card tucked at the wiper. |
Over all, our stay there was definitely memorable. The staff do actually pay attention to details and the service and friendliness is obviously commendable.
When we checked in we were also given a RM20 voucher to use in the gift shop. I used that to buy hubby a nice shirt.
On top of all the above, they have a lot of other amenities I did not get the opportunity to use as there just wasn't enough time. There was the Satkara Spa, and the gym.
And if you visit the Hard Rock Melaka nearby , you can get a 10% discount off your bill as well!!!!
So if you are in Melaka, have some extra dosh and in the need for some pampering and so on, you really have to come here. It will be worth your while.
